The short film Hatchback, which made its World Premiere at The St Kilda Film Festival in 2022 and went on to be nominated for Best Short Film at the 2022 AACTA Awards, is now available to watch online. The black comedy was shot in Melbourne in early mid-2021, and follows two men attempting to dispose of a dead body for the mob. Starring esteemed AFI/AACTA award winning actor Stephen Curry (The Castle, Hounds Of Love, The King: The Graham Kennedy Story) as Vince and Jackson Tozer (Mr Inbetween, The Newsreader, Deadloch) as Ted, the two-hander comedy is a fusion of films like Reservoir Dogs, Planes Trains And Automobiles and Weekend At Bernie’s. Directed, produced and co-written by Riley Sugars (known for short film Rabbits), Hatchback originated from an idea by co-writer and co-producer Chloe Graham. While listening to murder podcasts and driving, Chloe spotted a small hatchback and wondered if a dead body could fit in the boot. With strong encouragement from Riley, the two wrote the film during Melbourne’s lockdown in 2020 over zoom. The film went on to have a successful festival fun, culminating in a 2022 AACTA Nomination for Best Short Film.
