Director Stephen McCallum, writer Matt Nable and producers Jamie Hilton and Michael Pontin are the recipients of this year’s West Coast Visions fund. ScreenWest has granted them $750,000 to bring their bikie drama, 1%, to the screen.
Deigned to foster emerging local talents, the West Coast Visions program has previously funded the likes of These Final Hours, Blame, Wasted on the Young, and the upcoming Hounds of Love.
1%, which will produced under Hilton and Pontin’s Ticket to Ride banner, is McCallum’s first feature, following a string of well-received shorts, including the ‘It’s Time’ marriage equality video, which went uber-viral in 2011. 1% is described as “…a fictional tale set within the primal underworld of outlaw motorcycle club gangs delving into the themes of brotherhood, loyalty and betrayal. It follows the heir of the throne of a motorcycle club, Iron Horse MC, who has to betray his president to save his brother’s life.” Production is expected to begin in the next six months.
