Over two spooky nights over February 16 and 17, Melbourne is all set to go dark. In association with ACCA’s horror-themed exhibition From The Other Side, the Screams On Screen event is set to dazzled audiences with its expansive approach to the horror genre, which will be explored through feature film screenings, short film programmes, musical performances and visual art installations. Co-programmed by Jessica Balanzategui (School of Media and Communication, SIGN network lead) and Elyse Goldfinch and Jessica Clark (ACCA), Screams On Screen is a horror event unlike any other.

The program includes a 10-year anniversary screening of Jennifer Kent’s terrifying, emotionally complex 2014 modern horror classic The Babadook; a selection of cinematic master David Lynch’s rarely screened earliest experimental shorts dating from 1967-68); as well as new shorts from some of Australia’s finest emerging and established artists; a 4K restoration of Ann Turner’s mesmeric 1999 Australian folk-horror cult classic Celia (with Ann Turner on hand for a post-screening Q&A), and the first Iranian “vampire western”, Ana Lily Amirpour’s A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (2014). On top of all that cinematic goodness (or, perhaps that should be badness…in the best possible way), audiences can experience an exhibition of the monstrous sculptural works of visual artist Isabel Peppard, and a live performance from Rocket Science mastermind Roman Tucker, who will once again prove that there is no musical instrument stranger or more eerie than the mighty theremin.

With Screams On Screen, your darkest nightmares are all about to come true…
