Since its January 15, 2018 global release (apart from Australia and New Zealand) on streaming giant Netflix, the Australian tween flick Rip Tide has been hovering at the top of the trending list, indicating that the film has struck a chord with audiences around the globe.

“It’s been incredibly satisfying to see Rip Tide alongside Stranger Things on the Netflix homepage,” said producer Steve Jaggi. “And to have our film available to over 100 million global viewers is mind blowing. This changes the entire dynamic for Australian films, we can now compete effectively on a global level.”

Rip Tide‘s director Rhiannon Bannenberg added “The audience take-up on Rip Tide has been truly humbling, first via our domestic theatrical release, and now through such a wide rollout via Netflix. There aren’t enough hours in the day to respond to all the emails we’re getting from fans!”

Released widely through Australian cinemas during the September 2017 school holidays following its Sydney Film Festival bow, Rip Tide is a fish-out-of-water story that follows model Cora (Debby Ryan), who retreats to the beachside home of her Australian aunt Margot after a fashion faux pas. As things start to turn around, and Cora finds acceptance with the beach community, she is forced to choose between her new life and her old one.

Naomi Sequeira and Genevieve Hegney co-star, along with Andrew Creer, Aaron Jeffery, Jeremy Lindsay Taylor, Danielle Carter, Valerie Bader, Marcus Graham and Kimie Tsukakoshi. The film was shot in New South Wales.
