“Over its 25 years, Rev has developed into an international screen culture leader,” says Revolution Perth International Film Festival director and founder, Richard Sowada. “So few, if any, have the richness of program as Rev, from live performance, moving image art, commissioning and producing films, our own streaming service with Revstream.com.au, and the outstanding films themselves. It’s humbling and greatly rewarding to have such a positive impact on the WA screen sector and wider community.”

Always a fascinating entry on Australia’s busy national cinematic calendar, The Revelation Perth International Film Festival has been gifted geographically with separation, instantly setting it apart from the many other film festivals in the country. Revelation has always done things a little differently, not merely tapping out overseas film festivals like Cannes and Berlin for content, but also digging into the slightly less obvious corners of the cinematic world. 2022 is no exception, with another rich and diverse selection of films expertly curated and crafted for Western Australian audiences.

Opening night film Sissy.

Kicking off with the hotly contemporary and social media-savvy Aussie horror flick Sissy, Revelation will then slip and slide through a wide variety of works, including new films by major cult figures like Peter Strickland (Flux Gourmet) and Bruce La Bruce (Saint Narcisse), as well as quality cinema from the states (the Watergate drama 181/2; the psychodrama The Humans; the musical Paris In Harlem), Australia (the ground-breaking Shadow and Lonesome) and the rest of the world (The Passengers Of The Night, After Blue, Planet X). The full programme is available now, and it’s packed to busting.

Backed up with special events and Q&A screenings, The 2022 Revolution Perth International Film Festival is all set to be one of the event’s best iterations yet.
