Flying Bark opens its doors to discuss the artistry and scale behind Paramount+’s highly anticipated animated feature
As excitement builds for Paramount+’s Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, Sydney-based animation powerhouse Flying Bark is lifting the curtain on its work helping bring the next chapter of the beloved franchise to life.
The award-winning studio contributed to 67.5 minutes of footage, delivering some of the film’s most ambitious moments through Flying Bark’s signature hybrid animation pipeline, blending traditional hand-drawn 2D animation with cutting-edge CG techniques. Across a three-year production period, 327 Flying Bark artists and crew members from over 30 countries worked across 20 departments, producing 97,340 frames of the film.
The project further cements Flying Bark’s reputation as one of the world’s leading studios for premium hybrid animation and follows a landmark year for the company, with the release of original Australian series Shaun Tan’s Tales from Outer Suburbia and Netflix animated premium series Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.
With studios in Sydney, Los Angeles and Madrid, and a workforce of almost 700 crew globally, Flying Bark continues to collaborate with major international partners while investing in Australian talent and original IP development.
Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender will premiere globally on Paramount+ on Saturday, July 25 at 12AM PT / 5PM AEST.
