When ambitious producer Madeline loses her cooking show’s guest chef on the morning of a critical shoot, she’s driven to desperate measures. With the show already on the brink of being axed, she needs a charismatic cook who can win over the network’s key demographic – oh, and they need to add some much-needed diversity.
In a last-ditch effort, Madeline turns to the studio’s Filipino cleaner. What no one realises – until now – is that this woman is Gloria, Madeline’s mother, her Ina, with whom she shares a simmering, long-unresolved tension. As Gloria reluctantly steps into the spotlight and unexpectedly shines, the high-pressure, single-day shoot becomes a crucible for old wounds, forcing mother and daughter to confront longburied grief and cultural dissonance. To move forward, they’ll have to reckon with what it means to be mixed up – emotionally and culturally – and find their way back to each other.
Created by writer/director Rachel Maxine Anderson, starring Lena Cruz (In Limbo, Wellmania, The Unusual Suspects) and introducing Triona Calimbayan-Giles in her debut leading role, Ina is produced by Rae Choi of Limina Pictures and Danielle Redford of Contra Stories, with Kerrin McNeil as Executive Producer and celebrated Filipino actress Ruby Ruiz (Expats, First Light) also attached as Executive Producer.
A four-person Ina team, all Asian Australian women creatives, are confirmed to travel to France for the event: Writer/director Rachel Maxine Anderson, stars Lena Cruz, Triona Calimbayan-Gilesand producer Rae Choi.
INA will receive its World Premiere as part of Short Form: Programme 1 at Canneseries Sunday 26th April at 2PM, Auditorium Jean Mineur.
