Pickpockets – a love letter to screwball romances and crime capers from across the world – releases in cinemas from November 9 and kicks off a national Q&A screening tour on that date at Sydney’s Randwick Ritz cinema.
Pickpockets, co-written, directed, edited by and starring D.C. Fairhurst and co-written, produced and starring Lucy Green, is a new independent Australian feature, also starring Zoe Terakes and Tim Minchin.
This highly original film is a hybrid of black and white and colour, graded by Kali Bateman, the co-colourist for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis.
Confirmed Q&A screenings with cast and key creatives attending are at Randwick Ritz, Hayden Orpheum, Palace Byron Bay, Tower Cinemas Newcastle, The Astor, New Farm Cinemas, HOTA, Rooftop Movies Perth and Luna on SX Fremantle between November 9 and November 25.

SYNOPSIS:
The flirty rivalry between a lone-wolf pickpocket and a charismatic rookie escalates into a spiteful turf war. Tempted by the score of a lifetime, the former enemies are forced to partner up. But when feelings get involved, their well-laid plans quickly fall apart.
D.C. FAIRHURST – WRITER/DIRECTOR/EDITOR & “JESSE”
D.C. Fairhurst is a genre filmmaker from Sydney, Australia. His work has won numerous awards and screened at festivals and pop-culture events worldwide, including a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. His debut feature film Reaching Distance premiered at CinefestOz, leading to a nationwide theatrical release before streaming on Stan. D.C.’s short horror projects White Void and The Drowned Bellboy passed over one million views online. In the wake of their viral popularity, a feature adaptation of White Void was optioned, with D.C. attached to direct.
As an Editor, D.C. has cut various award-winning short films and music videos, advertising for Microsoft and Google, and the Lisa Blair documentary Ice Maiden.
In a past life (and under a different name), D.C. was a child actor in the Sydney theatre scene, moving behind the camera in his late teens instead – Until Lucy Green challenged him to step back in front of it for This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us, to play Jesse (A challenge which continued into the feature adaptation).
LUCY GREEN – WRITER/PRODUCER & “ROBIN”
Lucy Green is a Sydney-based actor, writer and producer trained at the Stella Adler Art of Acting Studio in Los Angeles. A dynamic performer and creator, Lucy is also a skilled dancer, MMA fighter, and stage combat artist, with credits spanning throughout Australia and the USA on screen and stage. Her latest short film Disarmed (2024) premiered at Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose and was selected for 22 festivals internationally, receiving five awards. It was also selected to screen at the European Parliament Gala in Rome, where it received a special award for its contribution to eliminating violence against women. Her previous collaboration with D.C. Fairhurst – short film, This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us – won an award at Flickerfest in 2021 and toured nationally as part of its ‘Best Of’ program.
