Following two years of being online, the festival is looking forward to screening local and international award-winning films at The Sun Theatre and Kindred Studios in Yarraville, the Greek Centre in Melbourne’s CBD Greek precinct, and online from its website 12-18 May.
SSFF is excited to be presenting a variety of events including:
• short film screenings and independently made feature length films
• a female filmmakers’ program (Australia’s oldest)
• an Italian session with shorts and features
• a Greek session featuring films from the Athens Short Film Festival
• Access Cinema with a selection of award-winning films that feature Deaf actors and films featuring people living with a disability
• an excellent array of international films
• an online program
Look out for the Oscar nominated film Feeling Through which was produced by Oscar winner Marlee Matlin and was made in partnership with the Helen Keller National Centre. It features a Deafblind actor.
The SSFF is the premier festival of the western suburbs and an international festival that attracts entries from around the world. It is part of the City of Maribyrnong’s prestigious Festival City calendar and its 14 day program makes it one of the largest short film festivals in Melbourne.
The SSFF was an innovative festival from its inception. While many of Melbourne’s festivals now promote onscreen cultural diversity, the SSFF was designed from the beginning with programs and awards designed to showcase the reality of the West’s vibrantly diverse society. It was the first festival in Australia, to have a female filmmakers’ program.
Information regarding sessions can be found on the events calendar or in the downloadable SSFF2022 magazine.
Tickets for this year’s sessions including Opening Night are now available from participating venues and the festival’s website.
