Capricorn Film Festival in partnership with Rockhampton Regional Council RADF and Screen Queensland proudly present Filmmaker Workshop Rockhampton, a two-day educational opportunity for the Rockhampton region’s emerging and practising film artists presented by Queensland film industry professional, Luke Graham.

Ever wanted to learn how to write a short story for screen? Or how to be a director, camera operator or Producer? Meet like-minded people and learn tips to make your very own short film for the 2023 Capricorn Film Festival.

This workshop is this and so much more as you learn entry level skills into the filmmaking process, from idea inception through to distribution.

The workshop will be presented by Capricorn Film Festival mentor and feature film filmmaker Luke Graham and will include hands on experience with cinema quality equipment (camera, sound and lighting) breaking down scenes of a film, developing story and characters, acting, writing a scene, filming and editing.

Day one will consist of an overview of the production process, learning key skills to make an engaging story, hands on camera skills, breaking down a scene, writing a script and choosing crew roles for day two’s filming of a scene where participants will take turns in front and behind the camera.

We are excited to be offering this intimate educational workshop, which will give residents of all ages hands on skills to make a short film for the upcoming film festival and hopefully we might even open that desire in a few people to pursue a further career in the film industry, Luke Graham.

The workshop will show that you don’t need a film camera and a big budget to make movies. Though, participants will utilise cinema equipment throughout the course, the festival educator will dedicate time to creating films with what you have at your disposal without all the flashy equipment professionals have.

It’s important that those people taking up an interest be shown how to utilise the equipment they have at their disposal, a great camera will not make a filmmaker, but an educated filmmaker can create high quality work with minimal equipment. Take for example your iphone, it’s a great tool to develop your skills. Feature films are even been produced with them these days, Luke Graham.

The workshop will be held at Rockhampton, on March 19 and 20. To book or learn more: www.capricornfilmfestival.com
