A University of the Sunshine Coast Arts graduate working in the heart of the Californian film industry has shared her delight as families back home in Australia enjoy Pixar’s latest movie, Hoppers.

Lucy Laliberte, who graduated from UniSC in 2000, has worked her way up in the US industry over 20 years to become feature film production manager at the Disney-owned studio.

And she is very proud of Hoppers, which follows the story of a girl called Mabel who swaps her brain into a robotic beaver to infiltrate a wild animal community.

Lucy says her love of the environment, developed while growing up in Queensland, continues to influence her career experiences.

“Working on Hoppers was a dream come true,” Lucy says.

“I feel so lucky to have played a part in telling a story about nature and our need to protect what we love. Being a lover of nature and animals, Mabel’s story is near and dear to my heart.

“My role as the production manager in short was to make sure things moved smoothly, and that every goal was hit on time and within budget.

“Our production was made up of 12 departments, starting at the beginning of the pipeline with a story and editing team, and going all the way through to the final rendering of the film.

“I worked directly with the director and producer, and with a team of managers and supervisors to ensure the crew of 200-plus had everything they needed.”
