Behind the Seams follows 50-year-old India who is sandwiched between the trials of her ageing parents and those of her adult children, when a secret photo inside her father’s beautifully crafted sports coat leads her to mysteries within the extraordinary pieces of vintage clothing in her store.
Directed by Dr. Tiffany Lyndall Knight (Wolf Creek and The Babadook), written by Ruth Estelle, and based on an original screenplay by Victoria Morgan & Mandy Keulen, this series breaks new ground in many ways…
“The cast are on the way up, because of their maturity not despite it. It’s time we see more beautiful, clever ageing women on screen, who must cope with real life. We love aspirational shows like Just Like That and Big Little Lies but this is for Australian women who face struggles unique to them.
“Lead Actors Eliza Lovell (INDIA), Chrissie Page (GLORIA) and Ruby Walker (Ruby) play Mother, Grandmother and Daughter respectively, as they are in real life! We might be the first series ever, to star three generations of actors from the same family, playing three generations on screen.” Morgan says.
Second-hand clothing and the slow-fashion movement are the drivers of this project. Costuming and props were loaned from The Salvos Stores, Vinnies Australia, SA pre-loved shop Unique One Boutique, and Nairne vintage store, Little Ms Waste-Not.
Costume Designer, Oriana Merullo says she was spoilt for choice when sourcing authentic pieces for each character’s costumes.
The series is available on Facebook Watch, Instagram and Tik Tok and the production company is working on the next step in the story.
