What started as a souvenir Cinema Programme, for an ongoing horror festival in Adelaide, has quickly evolved into Australia’s newest entertainment magazine on movies and comic books. The ‘Bonfire Horror Club‘ magazine features stunning art, cult horror movie reviews, new articles, interviews, exclusive comic book stories and more.
Published once a year as official programmes for the Bonfire Horror Club (the ongoing horror movie festival at Palace Nova Cinemas in Adelaide), the first issue has a strong focus on John Carpenter’s THE THING – including original storyboards by Mike Ploog, a behind the scenes look at THE THING movie sequel comic book series (published by Dark Horse in 1991), eight all-new pin-ups of artists’ interpretations of ‘The Thing’ monster, and an exclusive short comic book story set within the 1982 movie.
The second issue expanded into a magazine, including an article on Umbrella Entertainment (keeping physical media alive), an interview with writer/director Kiah Roache-Turner including a behind the scenes look at the pages of comic book art featured in his creepy crawly 2024 spider horror movie STING, and much more.
Issue #3 has just been released, featuring an in-depth interview with Mark Raats (Australian movie poster artist on Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, etc), an article on Pat Mills’ and Kevin O’Neill’s unfinished ‘Robotel’ project (imagine dysfunctional robots running Fawlty Towers – hilarious), a feature article on cars in movies (including Sam Raimi’s iconic car which has a cameo in almost all of his films), a look at the final night of Adelaide’s last suburban drive-in (closed 26-Feb-2022), and a comic book story of Sam Raimi filming an Evil Dead movie in Australia (with iconic Aussie actors).

Produced by Darren Koziol and DARK OZ – the producers of Australia’s first ever comic book movie adaptations AND the creators behind Australia’s leading independent anthology comic book series’ Retro Sci-Fi Tales and DECAY, which together have showcased over 200 creators since 2010.
As the magazines are produced primarily for the cinema audience on the night, they are only available in print and only 400 of each are printed – all very Limited Editions.
A Kickstarter (online crowd funding campaign) is running NOW for the release of the 3rd issue, with the remaining stock of issues 1 & 2 also available. The new #3 issue is offered for only $21 (plus post) instead of the regular $25. Or grab the super discount special of issues 2 & 3 together for just $44 (instead of $50) plus postage, and get the two magazines posted for the price of one.
The remaining stock of issue #1 is dwindling fast, so be quick – it’s already classified as a rare collector’s item. And if you’re really keen there’s also a special NSFW (‘nude’) variant of issue #3 – only 100 copies were printed and less than 40 copies remain.
