Embracing all forms of new, established and emerging screen practices, Awards will be presented across 22 categories at what promises to be an extra special evening hosted by comedian Joe White.
Semi-finalist on Australia’s Got Talent, Ethiopian-Australian comedian Joe White has been referred to as “Down Under’s Trevor Noah” by the New York Post and has taken home Fringe World Festival’s Best Comedy Award three years running.
Arriving in Perth as a refugee at the age of 11, White turned to comedy in trying to find laughter in the midst of hardship and his stand-up routine has seen recent sold out shows in Perth and Melbourne Comedy Festivals.
WASCA Award Submissions are currently open (closing 1 November), with entries to be made via Film Freeway and the Special Award submissions via email.
Submissions are assessed by an independent panel of 36 jury members made up of screen professionals from all industry sectors who are based outside of Western Australia. This includes the likes of director Richard Lowenstein, film critic Simon Foster, actress Lucinda Cowden, filmmaker Justine Kerrigan ACS and musician Bernie Lynch of Eurogliders fame.
