The prestigious awards recognise the creative inputs of the Australian film industry and are supported by different areas of the film industry and culture sector.
Leading the 2022 FCCA Awards was Thomas M. Wright, taking home ‘Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best Director’ for The Stranger. His film also took home the prestigious award for ‘Best Film.’
Continuing the success of The Stranger, Joel Edgerton’s work in Wright’s film earned him the award for ‘Best Actor’.
Leah Purcell walked away with the award for ‘Best Actress’ for her performance in The Drover’s Wife. She shared the stage with colleague Mark Wareham ACS, who was awarded ‘Best Cinematography’ for his work on The Drover’s Wife.
Scooping up the award for ‘Best Actress Supporting Role’ was Leeanna Walsman for Bosch & Rockit. ‘Best Supporting Actor’ went to Sean Harris for his performance in The Stranger.
With the standard of entries in the ‘Best Documentary Feature’ category so high, the FCCA felt it was only fair to acknowledge two outstanding documentaries. Joint winners Man On Earth and Senses of Cinema took top place in this category.
Highly respected for recognising and rewarding originality and excellence, the FCCA Awards are Australia’s truly independent film awards voted on solely by film critic members and constitute a significant indicator of a film’s success.
