Paolo Genovese’s Perfect Strangers has been selected as the opening night film for this year’s Lavazza Italian Film Festival. Starring Alba Rohrwacher, Kasia Smutniak, Edoardo Leo, Giuseppe Battiston, Valerio Mastandrea and Marco Giallini, Genovese’s drama sees a dinner party make the catastrophic decision to share every messge, meail and call they receive over the course of their meal – treachery and betrayal ensues.

Also on the bill this year is the world premiere of The Space Between by Melbourne director, Ruth Borgobello, a romantic drama starring Flavio Parenti and Maeve Darmody. The Space Between is the very first Australian-Italian co-production, and both directo and cast will be holding Q&A sessions nationally.

Having impressed crowds and critics at Cannes, Marco Bellocchio’s Sweet Dreams is this year’s Centrepiece feature. Based on the novel Sweet Dreams, Little One, by Massimo Gramellini, the film sees a young boy struggling to cope with the disappearance of his mother, and stars Valerio Mastandrea and Bérénice Bejo.

.Other highlights this year include the Woody Allen-inspired comedy, Solo; the class comedy Daddy’s Girl; coming of age drama Arianna; motor racing drama Italian Race; and the Cannes-featured Fiore.
