The Batman
One of the most exciting films coming out next year is the reboot of the Batman franchise. It is no easy feat for writer Matt Reeves and Peter Craig, as they follow the commercially successful Dark Knight Trilogy starring Christian Bale.
Next year’s film will be the first outing for Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, and also stars Zoe Kravitz and Paul Dano. The film follows Batman in his second year of fighting crime in Gotham, as he is faced with the threat posed by The Riddler. Colin Farrell also stars in the film as The Penguin.
Mission: Impossible 7
The Mission: Impossible franchise returns in 2022, as the seventh film in the series is released in late summer. Once again, Tom Cruise plays the feature character of Ethan Hunt, while Simon Pegg returns to play Benji Dunn.
Very few details are known about the film at present, but joining the cast are Rob Delaney, Hayley Atwell, and Shea Whigham. Filming has been taking place over the past year, with Cruise sighted in Birmingham filming at New Street Station. An eighth film in the Mission: Impossible franchise is also set for release in 2023.
Jurassic World: Dominion
Everybody’s favourite dinosaur franchise returns in 2022, as the third move in the Jurassic World trilogy is released. Chris Pratt returns to play Owen Grady, while Bryce Dallas Howard and Laura Dern play Claire Dearing and Dr. Ellie Sattler.
Returning characters from previous Jurassic Park films also return for the third film in the trilogy, including Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm and Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant. Filming began in Canada, before further scenes were shot in the United Kingdom and Malta. The film is set for release in June 2022.
Indiana Jones
Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Indiana Jones in the sequel to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which was released in 2008. It will be the first film in the series that will be distributed by Walt Disney, and filming for the new film started in June 2021.
It is set to be one of the biggest releases of the year next year, and will see a de-aged Ford portray the famous character alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Boyd Holbrook, and Mads Mikkelsen.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
The third and final film in the Fantastic Beats trilogy is also released in 2022, and was titled as The Secrets of Dumbledore recently. Following COVID complications and the re-casting of Johnny Depp, the film was expected to be delayed, but is set for release in April next year. It will take place a couple of years after the events at the conclusion of The Crimes of Grindelwald, as Dumbledore questions how he will get involved in the war against Grindelwald’s army.
Eddie Redmayne once again stars as the lead character Newt Scamander, while Jude Law plays Dumbledore and Mads Mikkelsen replaces Depp as Grindelwald.
