Global indie film festival Lift-Off is returning to Sydney this month, taking up residency at Dendy Newtown from Monday, November 20 until Wednesday, November 22. November. The Sydney event is one of 10 taking place around the world, with the overarching aim to promote independent filmmaking and offer a platform for maverick creators to get their work in front of audiences.
The Lift-Off Network was started in the UK by James Bradley and Ben Pohlman in 2011 with the first London Lift-Off Film Festival. “Our film festivals are the perfect place to meet up-and-coming filmmakers at various stages of their
careers,” Pohlman said. “From new to award-winning talent, as well as other industry professionals. Through the
Lift-Off Film Festivals, we aim to build a community of talented filmmakers and film enthusiasts. We’re all people who love compelling storytelling and good cinema”
Hot tickets on the slate include Los Angeles Lift-Off winner Right Between Your Ears, a philosophical feature about the nature of belief, certainty, and truth that follows a group of people who believe they know the date of the end of the world; Jo-Ann Brechin’s Zelos, an examination of fidelity, betrayal and contemporary sexual politics; Loïc Paillard’s The Ones That Stay; and the Local Filmmakers Showcase and networking party on closing night.
