Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories and Nicole Kidman’s Blossom Films seem to be behind every series recently commissioned by streamers in this territory – Wolf Like Me, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Nine Perfect Strangers, Big Little Lies, often working together.

The latest is another Liane Moriarty (Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers) book adaptation, a Sydneysider making a big mark on the world stage.

The Last Anniversary is set on fictional Scribbly Gum Island, inspired by Dangar Island on Sydney’s Hawkesbury River. It’s a place of numerous secrets, including the disappearance of a young couple decades ago, which attracts true crime tourists. Single and almost 40, Sophie Honeywell (Teresa Palmer) inherits a house on the island, and discovers generations of women there, who will leave a lasting mark.

The supporting cast includes Miranda Richardson, Danielle Macdonald, Helen Thomson, Susan Prior, Claude Scott-Mitchell (The Dry), Charlie Garber (Barons), Uli Latukefu (Young Rock) and Jeremy Lindsay Taylor, with all 6 episodes directed by former Tropfest honcho and actor in his own right, John Polson, with head writer Samantha Strauss.

“We couldn’t be more excited to roll cameras on The Last Anniversary,” said Made Up Stories and Blossom Films in a press release. “Samantha Strauss has brought Liane’s novel to life in such a heartwarming and cinematic way, with our long-time friend John Polson at the helm. We’re so pleased to be filming the series here in NSW, Australia with our brilliant cast and crew and backed by our incredible partners.”
