Isabela Moner, who recently featured in Transformers: The Last Knight (pictured) and is set to appear in Sicario: Day of the Soldado has been cast in the title role of Dora the Explorer, a live action adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon series, which is set to shoot in Queensland, and follows a teenage Dora on an inevitable adventure or two.

With a script by Nicholas Stoller (Bad Neighbours) and directed by James Bobin (Muppets Most Wanted), this looks like it will be a film that both parents and children (and children’s teenage brothers and sisters) can enjoy, and one where the long-running TV show’s breaking the fourth wall tradition will involve some great meta moments.

“We are thrilled to have found our Dora in Isabela,” said Brian Robbins, President of Paramount Players. “Dora has long been a celebrated, strong heroine in animated television, and like Dora, Isabela has an incredible spirit and is an advocate for positive values. With our partners at Nickelodeon, we look forward to continuing Dora’s story for generations to come.”

Added Moner: “I’m honored and excited to bring Dora to life.  I grew up watching the show, and for me, especially as a Latina, Dora was an amazing role model – she is a strong, adventurous and fun-loving girl. I can’t wait to put on the backpack and begin her next adventure!”

No word yet on who will play Diego, the monkey Boots or backpack, backpack, backpack…
