Acclaimed Australian actor Hugo Weaving has collaborated with LiveLab, the commercial production arm of Griffith Film School, on Ky’s Story: Living With Autism, a short work that combines live action and animation in an effort to raise awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
In the film, directed by Griffith student Cameron March, Weaving tells us about the challenges facing his 16-year-old nephew, Ky Greenwood, who is autistic.
In a statement on the Griffith website, March described the experience as “…an amazing opportunity to work with a Hollywood A-lister like Hugo Weaving,” and described The Matrix and Lord of the Rings star as “…the most genuine, down to earth guy – he was very open and approachable. Still, it was a very surreal experience, sitting behind the monitor, thinking about all of the other directors like Peter Jackson and George Miller who have worked with Hugo.”
“We believe it’s vital to offer students year-round opportunities to gain industry experience while they are studying,” said LiveLab creative director, Richard Fabb. “Projects like this are a fantastic opportunity for our students, offering a wide collaboration on an important social issue.”
