In 2016, there was over 49 million tons of waste that came directly from the technology sector and of course as the demand grows to meet the hunger for newly developed technologies, the waste and improper disposal of such items will surge alongside it. Currently only 20% of waste from tech companies is being recycled, meaning the waste is not only taking up landfill space, but also generating huge amounts of unwanted toxic waste from chemicals in production. This is soon becoming an ecological and ethical disaster that needs urgent attention from all those involved in the tech production chains. Many companies today however, have come up with initiatives to ensure they are more eco-friendly and conscious.
The casino markets have always been involved within the technology industry, as they too have evolved with newer software and gadgets. Yet for the current set future, online casinos in Australia and all over the world are pushing to make the most of their technologies available online from any software device that you use. So yes, while gadgets, phones and everything else constantly evolves, casinos will make their services available from any handset, tablet or PC. Just as long as you opt to upgrade the preferred software within your devices. So, if you are fearing your devices are getting slightly old for the times, think again.
Apple
The first one on our list, is one of the biggest companies in the world, never mind just a tech company. Initiatives that Apple follow through on to ensure that they are environmentally conscious include running entirely on the function of renewable energy. Not only this, they also make sure that their packaging has the most minimal impact in terms of waste. A large percentage of their gadgets’ makeup is actually recyclable to a large degree, meaning that you should not put these straight into a waste bin.
Apple offers their consumers free disposal of all their Apple gadgets, but in addition to this you can trade in your gadgets to get a percentage off any of the latest purchases that you wish to make. This incentive was created to try and minimise waste from the consumer side as much as possible, but encourage the consumer to actively return and continue their custom with the brand. In turn, Apple would safely dispose of their gadgets and re-use the materials for future tech brand developments. Apple has an impressive zero waste to landfill percentage because of this amazing initiative.
Microsoft
Another huge tech giant in the industry today, Microsoft was here way before Apple and pretty much have a huge legacy behind them. We do admit that they have caught on to the initiatives much later than Apple, however that does not mean they are not trying. From their last environmental summits, they pledged that by 2023 all their centres will be run by renewable energy by a minimum of 70%. A way that they are trying to increase and encourage their chances of being carbon negative, is by inducing a charge to departments within their own company of $15 for every metric ton of CO2 emissions produced.
Dell
Dell has been trying to be sustainable and environmentally conscious for a very long time. They have many commendable initiatives that have inspired and in fact, made them great role models for any developing tech company out there. They have managed to make sure that 99% of their landfill waste is in fact recycled and reused for packaging and further technological renovations within the company. One initiative that they recently dived into, was collaborating with a sustainable accessories business named Bayou with Love. This brand was founded by Nikki Reed (actress and environmental activist), and with Dell she has made sure that all her gold jewellery and wedding rings are in fact created from the recycled gold materials sourced directly from Dell products.
Not only are they committed to the cause of recycling, their passion for prioritising social concerns to help the community flourish sustainably has allowed them to make sure they continuously provide a foundation of employment within the world’s regions, in the most sustainable way possible. If they use land up for a development project for example, they will make sure that it is sourced from rejuvenated derelict lands, rather than unsustainably damaging the environment further by using land in its natural state. The local inhabitants of that area also get employed to join in their project developments/initiatives, which is great for the region of choice and its economy.
