“My family always said, be careful what you write, you might have to make it one day! I’m so thrilled with the team we have assembled for Thou Shall Not Steal and can’t wait for audiences to join our cast of characters for a good old fashioned road trip from the NT to SA,” said Dylan River, whose parents are filmmakers Penelope McDonald and Warwick Thornton. His cousin, Tanith Glynn-Maloney, co-created the eight-episode series set in Central and South Australia during the 1980s.

Thou Shalt Not Steal is about a young Aboriginal delinquent Robyn (Sherry-Lee Watson) who escapes from detention in search of a family secret, partnering up with teenager Gidge (Will McDonald) and travelling across the outback. In pursuit is Maxine (Miranda Otto), a sex trafficker (!!) and Gidge’s preacher father Robert (Noah Taylor).

The cast is rounded out by Natasha Wanganeen, Warren H Williams, William McKenna, Darren Gilshenan, Shari Sebbens, Fiona O’Loughlin, Damian Walshe-Howling, Geoff Morrell, Justin Rosniak, Andy Golledge, Eddie Baroo and Fletcher Humphreys.

The series is produced by Ludo Studio (Bluey), who also backed Dylan River’s exceptional short form series Robbie Hood.

Thou Shalt Not Steal will stream on Stan.
