The blockbusters are delivering week in, week out, but you know what isn’t delivering? We really hate sounding like a broken record (remember those?), but the re-appearance of 2012’s The Sapphires at #2 on the Australian films at the box office chart, with its total box office of $14.5m, is a stark reminder just how little Australian films are earning at the box office these days. Relatively-speaking, yes, genre is still pulling them in, with Bring Her Back cracking $2.5m, and family film Runt recently breaking $5m, but it seems like we have truly given up on telling 4 (or at least 3) quadrant stories for the big screen. Too risky, too expensive to bring to market, etc, etc. To use a pun, Bring Them Back!
