Approximately 100 people attended from the film and television industry, including Gracie Otto, Barry Otto, Tai Hara, Krew Boylan, Christiaan Van Vuuren, Adele Vuko and Sarah Bishop.
In a nod to the 2019 Batman themed trailer – written & directed by the talented Flickerfest alumni Vanessa Gazy, produced by Scoundrel Films, featuring cast Tai Hara, Chantelle Jamieson, James Fraser and Marcus Graham – guests sipped on Dark Knights a specially created delicious gin cocktail with batman sugar ice cubes. The Festival trailer was once again a film classic parody, this time featuring the Dynamic Trio (Batman, Robin and Batgirl) vs The Joker.
Guests were treated to a taste of the 2019 Festival with a screening of Desert Dash, an action short which reflected the Festival’s superhero theme. Desert Dash was written, directed and stars Gracie Otto as the feisty heroine playing to escape in the gamified survival film.
The 2019 Festival received more than 2,700 entries from almost 100 countries, with 200 selected for the upcoming Festival programme. There’s something for everyone with films encapsulating romance, comedy, animation, documentary and drama.
130 of those films will be included in the competition; Flickerfest is the only short film festival in the country where prize winners obtain eligibility for consideration in both the Academy Awards and the BAFTAs.
The 28th Flickerfest screens from 11 to 20 January 2019 at Bondi Beach, Sydney before embarking on a national, three-month tour that sees the festival visit 52 venues across the nation.
