Music helps create the atmosphere of exciting moments. In fact, movies have provided us with unforgettable moments, accompanied by distinctive soundtracks that resonate long after the credits have rolled.
In this article, we will delve into the world of movie soundtracks and explore some of the best scores to ever grace the silver screen.
Casino
The name and location of the action could hardly be better chosen for the film Casino, because everything takes place here in the gambling stronghold of Las Vegas in the 1970s and 1980s, two decades before launching bests gaming sites not on Gamstop. Sharon Stone and Robert de Niro star in the lead roles. In the classic, Sam, played by Robert de Niro, increasingly loses control over his life. His great love belongs to a high-class prostitute named Ginger McKenna-Rothstein, played by Sharon Stone. How could it be otherwise, it’s all about gambling, love, power and the mafia. Intrigues are woven here, contract killings are carried out, politicians and police officers are bribed, everything that you wouldn’t even suspect at first. Although it was filmed in 1995 and is therefore almost a classic, the film’s musical highlights are unforgettable. These include the pieces ‘Hoochie Coochie Man’ by Muddy Waters, ‘Ain’t Got No Home’ by Clarence and ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ by Jimmy Smith.
James Bond – Never say never
The next legendary casino film was shown in cinemas in the 1980s. The name James Bond will definitely be familiar to every film fan worldwide. James Bond films have now been around for decades. With new actors taking on the role of the legendary British secret agent James Bond, fans around the world were able to get excited. A single man always takes on organised crime or even entire states. 007 always orders his vodka martini shaken and not stirred. This is often exactly what happens in a casino. This was the setting for several Bond films, the casino in Monte Carlo. The film was accompanied by the song of the same name ‘Never Say Never Again’ by Lani Hall. This opening music from the James Bond film Never Say Never Again is known worldwide and will be remembered.
Ocean’s Twelve
The film Ocean’s Twelve is probably one of the most famous casino films in the Ocean’s series. This part ties in seamlessly with the events of Ocean’s Eleven. Here Danny decided to take revenge on the casino owner because he was responsible for Danny going to prison. On the day he was released, Danny got the team together and planned and carried out the gigantic coup. Ocean’s Twelve follows directly here. The casino owner of the three robbed casinos realises that Danny and his crew were the thieves. Now he wants his money back from them. But the air in the USA has now become far too hot for both Danny and his team. Reason enough to head to Europe and try out the casino there again. The theme music of Ocean’s Twelve, which was created by David Holmes in the first part, has the perfect title, which is ‘165 Million Dollars’.
21
The film 21 is based on the book Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich, but often deviates from the original book. However, this in no way harms the tension and the plot of the film. Jim Sturgess plays the young student Ben Campbell. He studies at one of the most renowned universities in America, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Micky Rosa, played by Kevin Spacey, and his future team meet there. The special thing about this film is that it is based on a true story. It’s all about 6 highly talented students and their professor who want to win millions thanks to their mathematical skills.
That’s why the team regularly flies to Las Vegas to play blackjack in the largest and most famous casinos. Because this team doesn’t just play, but really has a system, they are always the winners. Of course, this doesn’t go unnoticed by security guard Cole Williams, played by Laurence Fishburne. This exciting casino film is accompanied by Rihanna’s ‘Shut Up and Drive’, Weezer’s ‘Everybody Get Dangerous’ and ‘Slipping Away’ by Moby.
Rain Man
Actually, this film isn’t primarily about gambling or takes place in a casino. Nevertheless, the casino plays a small but very important supporting role in the course of the plot. Rain Man tells the story of brothers Raymond and Charlie Babbitt. Raymond, played by Dustin Hoffman, and Charlie, played by Tom Cruise, are two brothers who couldn’t be more different. While Raymond is autistic, Charlie is a businessman who finds himself in a predicament because of his imported cars. This is made even worse by the death of the two brothers’ father.
Because in the opening of the will, it suddenly turns out that Charlie is largely left empty-handed. The million-dollar inheritance of three million dollars goes to an unknown person. It soon becomes clear that the stranger is Charlie’s brother Raymond. Because he is autistic, he lives in a home for the disabled. Until the will was read, Charlie didn’t even know that he had a brother. He decides to simply kidnap Raymond. While the two are on their way to California, a close relationship suddenly develops between the two brothers. Raymond is a genius with numbers, which is quite common among autistic people. This skill should now be used when counting cards in Las Vegas, where the cards are counted in blackjack. The soundtrack of this fascinating and extremely interesting film comes from Hans Zimmer.
