“The costumes and the sets aesthetically match the energy of the film – they’re another colour to the painting.” Chris Hemsworth
It might have divided audiences upon its release (come on, get on board…it’s great fun!), but there’s no denying that Thor: Love And Thunder is a vibrant, colourful, eye-popping visual feast. While the visual effects were, as expected, truly stunning, it’s the film’s practical elements that remain its real forte, and some of those will now be accessible to the public thanks to an exciting new exhibition. The Australian Centre For The Moving Image (ACMI) is now exclusively showing incredible costumes and props from Thor: Love And Thunder in its free centrepiece exhibition The Story Of The Moving Image.

The exhibit features costumes worn by all the film’s major characters: Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Jane Foster aka The Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman), Gorr The God Butcher (Christian Bale), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Zeus (Russell Crowe). Props such as Mjölnir (Thor’s hammer), Stormbreaker (Thor’s axe), the Necrosword (Gorr’s sword), Zeus’s Lighting Bolt and Valkyrie’s dagger and sword are also on display.
“ACMI is so excited to work with The Walt Disney Company Australia & New Zealand to bring costumes from the latest Marvel Studios blockbuster to Melbourne,” says ACMI curator Bethan Johnson. “These amazing Thor costumes, showing exclusively in our free centrepiece exhibition The Story Of The Moving Image, are set to be a hit with audiences of all ages.”
Thor: Love And Thunder Costumes is showcased in ACMI’s free centrepiece exhibition, The Story Of The Moving Image, from 28 July 2022 until 28 July 2023. For further details visit the official website.
