The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.
…and a long time after that, the trailer followed, too.
But let’s face it, it was well worth it. This looks amazing. It’s all here: Roland the Last Gunslinger. The Dark Tower at the centre of all creation. Mid-World, in all its broken down and desolate glory. And the Man in Black.
Stpehen King’s dimensions-spanning ouroboros of a a fantasy saga has long been considered unfilmable, but it looks like Danish director Nikolaj Arcel is pulling out all the stops on this one. Is it going to be a faithful translation? Hell no. But it feels like The Dark Tower, and that’s more important that mere narrative fidelity.
And that music cue? “Watch Chimes” by Ennio Morricone from For a Few Dollars More. Heck yes.
Staring Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, and Tom Taylor, The Dark Tower shoots into Australian cinemas on August 17, 2017. Bring the whole ka-tet.
