The Australian horror renaissance continues with the announcement that Screen Australia and the South Australian Film Corporation have funded production of In The Blood, a vampire movie to be directed by Wastelander Panda helmer, Victoria Cocks.
Produced by Trevor Blainey (Cut Snake, Noise) and working from a script by Nigel Karikari, In the Blood will tell the story of “…family, both of blood and clan, about a mother’s redemption and the coming of age transformation of the son she once abandoned” as a vampire, Selina*, returns to the family home to kill her teenage son, only to be pursued by a band of ruthless monster hunters.
In a statement, Cocks said, “Genre is what I love and what I feel most passionate about as a director. Finding a script that is able to combine that with both a great dramatic premise and great characters you genuinely care about in equal measure is something I will never say no to taking on.”
“In The Blood is a terrific script written by Nigel Karikari that I’m sure will make a compelling film. It’s a great
opportunity for me to work with a talented new director Victoria Cocks who I know is ready to make her mark
with this film”, said producer Trevor Blainey.
This could be interesting. Australia is about 50/50 on vampire films (Daybreakers is good, The Caretaker is watchable, Outback Vampires is dire, Bloodlust is terrible), so maybe In The Blood will tip the balance? Pre-production kicks off in August, with a mid-2018 delivery date via Umbrella currently penciled in. Guess we’ll find out then.
*Part of becoming a vampire is picking your own wanky goth name. I hope they reveal that her birth name is Beryl or something.

Do you know who will be casting?
sorry, we don’t
Any update on this?
