Surprisingly there’s a lot to unpack here in the trailer for the fifth (!) Transformers movie. Is that Unicron? Is Optimus Prime a bad guy now, a herald for the world-eating mechanical planet ala The Silver Surfer? What’s going on with all the medieval stuff? Is this somehow going to start tying in with Hasbro’s expanded toy/movie universe (Transformers/GI Joe/MASK/Visionaries/Lord knows what else)?
You would think that having been burned three times now (the first one was okay) we’d learn to not get our hopes even remotely close to up, but all those big robots bashing their heads together, soothingly narrated by Tony Hopkins’ rounded Welsh vowels, has kind of piqued our interest. Transformers: The Last Knight is in Australian cinemas June 22, 2017.
