In London right now, you can’t swing a dead cat – if you’ll pardon the expression – without hitting a poster for A Street Cat Named Bob, the film adaptation of James Bowen’s autobiographical book. It’s huge there, and it’ll likely do just as well here.

Luke Treadaway plays Bowen, a homeless drug addict trying to turn his life around. Bob the cat plays himself – the stray alley tom who comes into Bowen’s life at just the right time and helps him get back on his feet. And yes, to reiterate, the cat plays himself – that’s the actual moggy up on the screen, and what a charismatic furball he is.

Directed by Roger Spottiswoode (The World’s Fastest Indian) and co-starring Ruta Gedmintas, Joanne Froggatt, and Anthony Head, A Street Cat Named Bob slinks into Australian cinemas on February 9, 2017.
