Here’s some good news for a Friday afternoon: Balgowlah-based writing team Spencer and Lloyd Harvey have won the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Nicholl Fellowship for their script, Phone Booth. They will receive $35,000 from the Academy, on the understanding that they will complete a feature screenplay in the coming year.
Four other winners were also named, all of them Americans, none of them writing teams. They are:
Michele Atkins for Talking About the Sky
Geeta Malik for Dinner with Friends
Elizabeth Oyebode for Tween the Ropes
Justin Piasecki for Death of an Ortolan
A total of 6915 screenplays were submitted this year, making the win a particularly auspicious one. We heartily congratulate them both.
