Really, Sony has form for this – first Spider-Man, now the Smurfs are getting a reboot, contravening established canon and certain to rile up the loyal fanbase.

Or not, because it’s the Smurfs. Expect no petitions here.

Anyway, the next Smurf movie is an all-animated affair with an all new voice cast. To wit:

“A mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Embarking on a rollercoaster journey full of action and danger, the Smurfs are on a course that leads to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history!”

The cast is decent, to be fair: Demi Lovato is Smurfette, Joe Manganiello is Hefty, Jack McBrayer is Clumsy, Mandy Patinkin is Papa Smurf, Danny Pudi is Brainy and Rainn Wilson is Gargamel.

Smurf on down to your local theatre from March 23, 2017.
