CRUNCHYROLL ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION AND THEATRICAL DATES FOR NEW ANIME FILM RASCAL DOES NOT DREAM OF A DEAR FRIEND
Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will bring the fantasy film to cinemas in Australia on February 18, 2027
Crunchyroll, the ultimate home for anime worldwide, announced today the Australian theatrical date for the all-new supernatural anime film Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend. The story follows university student Sakuta Azusagawa unraveling the mystery known as “Puberty Syndrome”, and the line between his dreams and reality increasingly starts to blur. The film will come exclusively to cinemas via Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment on February 18, 2027 in Australia. The film will be available in both Japanese with English subtitles as well as dubbed in English.
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend marks the fourth feature film and the conclusion of the Rascal Does not Dream franchise, which also includes two television series. Continuing the story after Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus (2025), the new film picks up where the last chapter left off.
The film is directed by Soichi Masui, based on an original story by Hajime Kamoshida (published in Dengeki Bunko). Animation production is by CloverWorks.
All three films and both seasons of Rascal Does Not Dream are available to watch on Crunchyroll.
About the Rascal Does Not Dream Series
Sakuta Azusagawa, a high school nobody, never expected to find a bunny girl in the library. What’s more, the girl he meets isn’t just anyone—she’s a former actress and popular upperclassman—or at least she was, until, somehow, she disappeared from everyone’s view. Now, Sakuta is the only one who can see her or even remember that she existed. Perhaps going unnoticed is just a symptom of puberty.
Official Film Synopsis
“Actually, I’m Touko Kirishima.”
The audience erupts in cheers as nationally renowned actress Mai Sakurajima reveals herself to be the mysterious Touko Kirishima, bringing to life the very dream Sakuta Azusagawa had on Christmas Eve.
Following Mai’s shocking revelation on April 1, seemingly impossible events from people’s dreams begin to manifest in reality.
As the mysterious social media hashtag #DREAMING, where users share dreams that later come true, suddenly disappears, Sakuta begins to experience a growing disconnect between reality and his own perception. Amid the confusion, he receives a message from himself in another possible world:
“Stop Touko Kirishima, before reality is rewritten.”
Determined to restore the world to its original state, Sakuta sets out to uncover the truth behind Touko Kirishima and confront Puberty Syndrome itself.
