Step back into the wild, restless Sydney of the early 1980s with a special screening of Going Down, Haydn Keenan’s cult Australian film that captures Sydney’s nightlife, youth culture and changing cityscape in the early 1980s.
The film follows four young women over one chaotic night on the town before one of them leaves Sydney for New York. As the night unfolds, parties, petty crime, fractured friendships and unexpected encounters draw them deeper into the city’s after-dark world.
Following the screening, director Haydn Keenan joins us for a live Q&A, offering a rare opportunity to hear about the making of the film and the Sydney captured on screen.
The evening is presented and hosted by Jay Katz and Miss Death of Mu Meson, Sydney cult-film curators known for uncovering forgotten, overlooked and unconventional cinema and bringing it back to audiences in new contexts.
Haydn Keenan is an award-winning Australian filmmaker whose work spans feature films, television and documentary. The youngest filmmaker to win Best Film at the Australian Film Awards, his career has ranged from social realism and surrealist drama to acclaimed documentaries and investigations into ASIO. His work is known for its independent spirit, distinctive style and strong sense of humanity.
