Master New Zealand film director (The Navigator, Map Of the Human Heart) and visual artist Vincent Ward will be in Australia for a number of special appearances in July.
New Zealand-born director Vincent Ward has a slew of impressive credits to his name (The Navigator, Map Of the Human Heart, What Dreams May Come, Vigil, River Queen), and even had a famed near-miss with the Alien franchise. He’s also a gifted visual artist, and he’s bringing all of his talents to bear in a series of Australian appearances. Across a variety of platforms, Vincent Ward continues to explore memory, landscape, identity, and the relationship between personal and collective histories. Alongside his more well-known film work, Ward has developed a substantial body of visual art encompassing painting, photography, printmaking, and immersive installation. His work has been exhibited internationally, including a major solo presentation that occupied the interior of a cathedral at the Shanghai Biennale.
July is set to be a big month for Vincent Ward in Australia. He will launch his exhibition, “Palimpsest”, at VOID gallery in Melbourne. He will then sit down on July 7 for an intimate chat about his life and career at The Kelvin Club, before screening two of his most highly regarded films – The Navigator and What Dreams May Come – at Cinema Nova on July 8 and 9 respectively. Ward will be in attendance at both screenings for an up-close-and-personal Q&A session. Here’s your chance to meet an antipodean movie legend…
