Opening 26 March – Showcasing the Multiverse of Hong Kong Cinema

The 2nd Hong Kong Film Festival in Australia will officially open this March. The Sydney edition will take place from 26 to 28 March at Event Cinemas George Street, while the Melbourne screenings will be held from 28 to 29 March at Chinatown Cinema.

Festival Details – Sydney & Melbourne

The Sydney program will present five Hong Kong films, with veteran film director Clifton Ko Chi-Sum attending in person for a special sharing session. Among the five titles, three will be Australian premieres, one a Sydney premiere, and one a 4K classic remix.

The 2025 Hong Kong box-office champion returns in spectacular fashion. This highly anticipated extended edition will make its Sydney Premiere, reuniting the iconic cast of the 2001 television series for an epic big-screen adventure.

KUNG FU JUNIORS

The Australian Premiere of the latest film directed by Clifton Ko, starring martial arts legend Sammo Hung. Blending action with cultural storytelling, the film celebrates the spirit of Chinese kung fu. Director Clifton Ko will attend the Sydney screening for an exclusive post-screening Q&A session.

PASS AND GOAL

This Australian Premiere comedy starring Gigi Leung tells the story of a struggling entrepreneur who rediscovers her direction in life while coaching a U12 youth football team, leading to a series of heartfelt and hilarious moments.

CHUNG KING EXPRESS

Audiences can revisit Wong Kar Wai’s neon-soaked arthouse classic on the big screen. Celebrated for its distinctive visual style and cinematography, the film remains one of the most iconic love letters to urban life in cinema history.

ANOTHER WORLD

Do not miss this award-winning animated feature exploring life and death. The film premiered in the Midnight Special section at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, won the Golden Horse Award, and received eight nominations at the Hong Kong Film Awards, marking a milestone for Hong Kong animation.

Sharing the Spirit of Hong Kong Cinema

Festival Chair Ricky Hui said the five selected films showcase Hong Kong culture and the spirit of its people through diverse storytelling styles and themes. He hopes the screenings will introduce the charm of Hong Kong cinema to Australian audiences while encouraging cross-cultural dialogue and understanding.
