Moving Floor Entertainment is proud to announce the release of its new online web series Deserted, starring Shuang Hu (Five Blind Dates, The Family Law) and Sean Lynch (Ticket to Paradise, Danger Close).

Deserted is about a fictional woman and man who find themselves marooned on an uninhabited tropical island and quickly discover how easily they rub each other up the wrong way. The five-episode short comedy was written by Stephen M. Irwin, directed by Stephen and Lark Lee, produced by Lark Lee and Leigh McGrath, with cinematography by Nick Paton ACS. The series will release on Shuang Hu’s YouTube channel ‘The One Shu’ in July 2025.

Shuang Hu said, “It was such a delight to film this genuinely funny series. We filmed in late May on Quandamooka Country, North Stradbroke Island. I have to say those beaches are some of the most beautiful places I’ve been fortunate enough to work.”

Co-star Sean Lynch said, “Shu was so fun to act alongside, and is such a dedicated professional. But the entire crew and production team were absolutely lovely. They made long days in the sunshine easy to bear – very important when everyone is looking at you to be funny!”

Queensland-based production company Moving Floor Entertainment received production funding for Deserted from Screen Australia through the agency’s Online Production Fund.

Moving Floor’s co-founder Leigh McGrath said: “We saw this series as a way to give opportunities not only to established television practitioners, but to emerging and advancing creatives.” These creatives included Logan-based filmmaker Lark Lee, who was a producer and a director on Deserted. “As a Korean-Australian storyteller, Deserted was a great chance not only to exercise some of my existing skills but to also expand my experience working with a fabulous crew,” said Ms Lee. “I really appreciate that Screen Australia funding allowed us to engage a great blend of experienced practitioners and new, younger creatives.”

Among those younger practitioners was Sophia Le Ray, who worked as 3rd Assistant Director. “As emerging crew, I was so grateful for the opportunity to work within a tight-knit team, made up of both experienced professionals and fellow newcomers. The supportive environment and beautiful backdrop left me with an unforgettable early entry in my filmmaking career.”

Leigh McGrath said that filming on a beach even in good weather has potential to turn disastrous, but Deserted was a dream. “First and foremost, we had the generous support of our national screen agency, Screen Australia. This funding meant we could plan effectively for all contigencies as we got Shu and Sean onto location every day to work their magic!”

Deserted episodes will drop on Youtube Channel @TheOneShu throughout July 2025, along with teasers and behind-the-scenes clips.

Deserted is a Moving Floor Entertainment production. Principal production funding was from Screen Australia. Moving Floor is grateful to the Quandamooka People for allowing the filming of Deserted on North Stradbroke Island.’
