In November last year, writer/director Anthony Ross and cinematographer/editor Max Rawicz embarked on their third ambitious self-funded short film. A throwback to ’80s horror classics and inspired by the works of Carpenter, Argento and Raimi, the film was shot on location in the riverside town of Franklin, in the Huon Valley in Tasmania. With the collaboration of Melbourne Special FX icons Sharp FX, the deeply funny, provocative and blood-soaked thriller has hit the festival circuit.

After playing to a raucous, sold out crowd at CinefestOz’s Horror In the Viewing Room, a screening held at an actual funeral home, at the start of the month, Working Holiday will have its Victorian premiere at Monster Fest at Cinema Nova on Lygon St on Wednesday the 8 of October. The filmmakers will be in attendance and look forward to meeting other filmmakers and horror fanatics.

Director Anthony Ross: “Working Holiday was a labour of love for all involved, it’s our shaggy little freak of a baby with a dozen parents who has made us prouder than we’ve ever been. We knew, from the moment the crew boarded the Spirit of Tasmania with a severed prosthetic head in the boot of their car, that it wouldn’t be a film to everyone’s taste. But seeing it with an audience and having it so deeply supported by the Horror fans at both the larger festivals and the smaller genre festivals we’ve played has been insanely rewarding – turns out there’s a bunch of folks out there that share the same twisted sense of humour we do!”
