Australian animation is making noise in Hollywood: The animated comedy series Under Koalafied, has officially been picked up by Los Angeles based Malin Entertainment for international sales representation.
Created during Melbourne’s 2021 COVID lockdown, the series was conceived when Executive Producer Richard Di Gregorio from Peregrine Productions shifted from halted live-action projects to remote friendly animation. Teaming with writer/director Timothy Llewellyn Evans, the duo developed a sharp, irreverent series about a country koala battling mounting pressures in the dingo eat dingo world of the big city.
Illustrator Niniane Le Page led character design, with the compact creative team spending a year defining the show’s style and episodic arc.
A standout voice cast, led by Mahalia Brown, Tom Armstrong, and Jacqueline Mifsud brought the series’ eccentric ensemble of characters to life.
Animation was then completed over the next three years, with the project entirely self financed. Created by a small but dedicated team, the series became a marathon of determination, late nights, remote collaboration, and relentless passion.
The team’s persistence paid off. Under Koalafied caught the attention of Laura Malin of Malin Entertainment in Los Angeles.
With Malin Entertainment now championing the show internationally, Under Koalafied moves into its next phase as it seeks global distribution.
