NIDA Open’s Summer School is open to anyone who wants to explore their creative side with a series of fascinating Short Courses.
When most people think of NIDA – Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art, located in the Sydney suburb of Kensington – it’s usually as a place built and designed for the rigorous, serious and long-term study of the art of acting. Their thoughts may also often turn to the extraordinary alumni of NIDA, with past students including the gifted likes of Colin Friels, Toni Collette, Cate Blanchett, Mel Gibson, Miranda Otto, Sarah Snook, Sacha Horler and many, many more.
NIDA, however, isn’t just for people looking to dedicate several years of their lives to serious study, and it isn’t just for aspiring actors either. NIDA Open is for those interested in learning about all aspects of theatre and film craft, and for those with only minimal time up their sleeves. And what better time is there to embrace your creative possibilities than summer?

NIDA Open’s Summer School is an innovative program of adult courses designed to inspire, refine and elevate your craft. Summer School offers Short Courses and the first of the new Masterclass series, which run from between two-to-five days, and continue through to January 24. Courses offer skills-building for a variety of disciplines including acting, directing, writing, technical production, props making, lighting design, set and costume design, hair and make-up, and more. With offerings available for all levels from Introduction to Advanced, everyone has access to NIDA Open Summer School Courses, led by active, highly skilled and passionate teaching artists.
What’s more, NIDA Open’s Short Courses don’t require auditions and rigorous inclusion processes: the Summer School welcomes all creatives who are looking to learn a new skill or advance their craft. It’s that simple.
This summer is the time to unlock your creativity with one of NIDA Open’s Summer School.
