One of the buzziest films of the year, Project Hail Mary opened strongly, but its screen average was dwarfed by Dhurandhar: The Revenge, a film that a particular demographic in Australian lapped up in a massive way. We feel kinda stupid here at FilmInk constantly banging on about Hollywood and Australian films when the reality is that we’re not in Kansas any more.
Speaking of banging on, our favourite result for this week is an Aussie indie named Southerly, which we have actually had the privilege of seeing, and it ain’t half bad as a rumination on Covid and creativity … but here it is, released with absolutely no fanfare, and a trailer launched 2 days before release – now, that’s going to move the dial! Check it out below, coz you sure ain’t seeing it in a cinema,
