It also won two of the biggest accolades at the Melbourne Cineverse Film Festival earlier this month- taking out Best Australian Film and Best Actress, for Cassidy Krygger. It’s the fifth best actress award for the Geelong 29 year old, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis,  this awards season.

That’s a total of 10 film awards so far for the film directed by Alyssa Scott and produced by Daisy Productions, “Daisy” has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide with its poignant narrative and compelling performances.

Inspired by the true story of Krygger’s great-grandmother, “Daisy” transports viewers to 1930, where a young Catholic woman named Daisy finds herself at a crossroads after discovering she is pregnant out of wedlock with the child of her Protestant lover, Charlie (Krygger’s Great Grandfather). As societal pressures and familial expectations loom large, Daisy must navigate love, sacrifice, and self-discovery in the face of adversity.

“I have put lots of nods to my great grandmother in the film to honour her legacy.” Says Cassidy. “My production company logo for Daisy Productions is Daisy’s real signature from her 1930 marriage certificate. In the film, I wear her actual necklace that has been passed on for generations. It is the only thing of hers that still exists.”

Despite the film’s modest budget, director Alyssa Scott and the talented cast and crew brought Daisy’s story to life with authenticity and passion, capturing the essence of the era and the emotional depth of the characters.

“Daisy” has received widespread acclaim, earning the following accolades:

Best Biographical Short Film- Cannes World Film Festival

In addition to these honours, “Daisy” has been selected for the Marina Del Rey Festival in Los Angeles, with Cassidy and her executive producer travelling there in June. It’s also a finalist at the Toronto International Women’s Film Festival and Top Shorts in Los Angeles later this month.

“To have won five best actress awards and five best short film awards at so many prestigious film festivals, it does not even feel real.” Says Cassidy.

Cassidy has been open in the past about her Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis and is an advocate for those suffering with their diagnosis. “At first I thought I’d never work as an actress again. So to now come full circle and win so many best actress awards is pinch yourself stuff!”
