The Dry starring Eric Bana, Genevieve O’Reilly, John Polson, Miranda Tapsell, Keir O’Donnell, Matt Nable, and a fantastic young cast; follows Federal Agent Aaron Falk (Bana) as he returns to his drought-stricken home town to attend the funeral of childhood friend Luke, who allegedly murdered his wife and child before taking his own life.
When Falk reluctantly agrees to stay and investigate the crime, he opens an old wound – the death of 17-year-old Ellie Deacon.
Falk begins to suspect these two crimes, separated by decades, are connected. As he struggles to prove not only Luke’s innocence but also his own, Falk finds himself pitted against the prejudice towards him and pent-up rage of a terrified community.
Adapting Jane Harper’s award-winning novel of the same name, director Robert Connolly has crafted a sublime Australian film that has the makings of a modern classic.

Sorry but I’m going to swim against the tide here…
THE DRY would honestly be one of the worst, slow-as-a-turtle, poorly acted and unimaginatively scripted movies I have seen. Like, EVER.
Eric Bana was literally the only half-way-decent thing about this boring-as-watching-paint-DRY film. Even the CGI effects in the fire scene towards the end when the guy pours petrol on himself were soooo fake and sub-standard it was cringe-worthy.
Two thumbs down to this Australian film industry embarrassment.
I found The Dry too be a little contrived. A slow, undynamic burn which by the end, still left me feeling as empty as I felt by the midpoint of the film.
There are much better Australian films out there not getting half the wrap, like “The Furnace, “The Xrossing” and to some extent, “High Ground.”
