The Artist’s Room, a new initiative by Create NSW, Event Cinemas and AFTRS is a series of screening events designed to stimulate discourse in the Australian screen industry. It’s kicking off next Wednesday, May 31, with a special one hour Q&A with veteran Australian actor David Wenham, followed by a screening of Gettin’ Square at Event Cinemas George St, Sydney.

Hosted by critic Luke Buckmaster, the session will cover the length and breadth of Wenham’s career, from his breakout role in the chilling The Boys, through to his blockbuster work in Lord of the Rings, and encompassing his recent ventures in Iron Fist, Lion, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

This is the the first of many such planned events, with guests and films yet to be announced. The Artist’s Room aims to give the audience deeper insight into the craft of film and performance. All funds raised through the program will go towards a Screen NSW and Event Cinemas fund for a screenwriter’s development program supported by AFTRS.

“Event Cinemas is thrilled to be partnering with Create NSW and the AFTRS on The Artist’s Room. We hope that this program will inspire individuals who have a dream to work within the industry to pursue their vision. With funds from each event going towards the development of emerging screenwriting talent, it’s a must-attend program for fans and film lovers and allows Event Cinemas to give back to the industry we love,” said Anthony Kierann, Event Cinemas Area General Manager.
