Is Baby Driver gonna continue Edgar Wright’s perfect streak? After Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, and The World’s End, not to mention the seminal, brilliant geek-com, Spaced, you might think that the mop-topped auteur is due for a fall. But no, his latest, Baby Driver, looks mint – even when we’ve only got a couple of promo pics to go by.
According to the official precis, “A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.” That sounds pretty rote, but this is Edgar Wright at the height of his considerable powers – we have faith. Add to that a cast that also includes Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm and Eiza Gonzales and we’re champing at the bit.
Baby Driver hits Australian cinemas on August 10.
