We knew it was in the works, but now Warner Brothers have set a home release date for the fabled (and apparently preferred by George Miller) “Black and Chrome” version of Mad Max: Fury Road.

The film will come packaged in two new Mad Max disc releases due out on December 6: the Mad Max High Octane Collection, an omnibus of all four (five?) Mad Max movies, and the  Mad Max: Fury Road Two Film Collection, which brings together both versions of Fury Road for those of us who saw this coming and decided to play the long game.

“The best version of Fury Road was what we called a ‘slash dupe’: a cheap, black-and-white version of the movie for the composer,” Miller has said. “Something about it seemed more authentic and elemental. So I asked Eric Whipp, the colorist, ‘can I see some scenes in black and white with quite a bit of contrast?’ They looked great. So I said to the guys at Warners, ‘can we put a black-and-white version on the DVD?’ There wasn’t enough room. [It’ll end up] on another version with commentary and other features.”

…isn’t it pretty?
