Proudly Human has verified award-winning short film Slapper by Luci Schroder as human-created. As AI-generated content continues to flood the film industry, Luci’s verification helps her stand out by assuring audiences that her film is the work of a human creator.
“Having Luci Schroder’s award-winning short film as part of the Proudly Human family of creations, and the first filmmaker to be verified, is a pivotal moment,” said Dr Alan Finkel, Chairman of Proudly Human. “Filmmaking is a deeply creative and personal pursuit and protecting this art for creators and audiences is critical to our mission at Proudly Human.”
Slapper has earned Proudly Human certification following a rigorous verification process that confirms the film was created with no more than de minimis use of AI, giving audiences confidence in its human authorship. Luci’s film has been shown at Sundance Film Festival and won awards across the world including Vladivostok, Melbourne International Film Festival, Vimeo Best Drama of the Year, and Sydney Film Festival.
“I hope to be the first of many filmmakers and artists across the world who stand behind this movement,” said Luci Schroeder. “Storytelling reminds us where we’ve come from, uncovers who we are, and helps us imagine where we might go. It is the fabric that connects us. It allows us to live inside someone else’s experience and feel the world through different eyes.”
“Artificial intelligence can imitate patterns, replicate styles, and generate convincing story lines and images. But it will never have blood running through its veins or house a soul,” continued Luci.
The ProudlyHuman™ trust mark means viewers can be assured Luci’s film was created by humans and not AI-generated. The verification process was developed in consultation with screen industry practitioners and adapted to reflect the collaborative nature of filmmaking.
“Audiences are increasingly asking what they’re watching and how it was made,” said Leo Faber, Head of Partnerships and Industry Engagement at Proudly Human and a veteran film and television producer. “We’ve been working with the screen industry to develop a practical and credible certification process that gives filmmakers a way to demonstrate human authorship. Luci becoming the first verified filmmaker is an important milestone.”
