Australian filmmaker e.c.balázs brings her debut Minneapolis-based documentary Dearly Beloved to the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival on July 12, 2026 — the film’s Australian premiere.

As featured in The Guardian (May 2026), Dearly Beloved follows Balázs’s nine-year pilgrimage through Prince’s Minnesota homes — from his birthplace to Paisley Park — tracing a journey through grief, community, and transformation in the wake of the artist’s death.

Shot entirely on personal devices across nine years, the 7-minute experimental documentary has screened at the Atlanta Documentary Film Festival (World Premiere, March 2026) and MSPIFF45 (Minnesota Premiere, April 2026).

Balázs is also the founding curator of The People’s Museum for Prince, a grassroots community museum whose 10th anniversary edition opened June 7, 2026 in North Minneapolis. The museum’s 2018 first edition drew 3,000+ visitors in a single weekend; its 2026 return has been covered by The Guardian, Minnesota Monthly, Southwest Voices, and KMOJ 89.9 FM.

Dearly Beloved screens at MDFF on July 12, 2026.
