Kya Stewart stars in not one, but two films selected for this year’s Tropfest, marking a rare and significant milestone for the Sydney-based actor.

She appears in both Project Hourglass, an official Tropfest selection, and One More For Safety, selected for the festival’s Wildcard Competition.

She plays the lead role of Katie in Project Hourglass, directed by and co-starring Ben Mathews (Bed Head), alongside Bob Morley (The 100). She is also part of the ensemble lead cast in One More For Safety, directed by Kacey Baker.

Speaking on the dual selections, Stewart said: “To be selected and considered in not just one, but two films feels really special. It was a busy end to the year getting both projects off the ground, and I’m so grateful for the support, not just for myself, but for the incredibly talented people attached to both films.”

She added: “I want to acknowledge some of the amazing collaborators who helped bring these projects to life. Holly-Anna Mathews and Larissa Calarco, producers of Project Hourglass, alongside Josh Flavell (DOP). On One More For Safety, producer Victoria Carwin and co-stars Richard Carwin, Tahlia Flores, Shane Emmett, Alexander Ozmond, Jo Briant, and Brendan McBride all played a vital role in shaping the final work.”

Voting for the Wildcard Competition closes on Saturday 14 February, with One More For Safety currently available to watch via the Tropfest YouTube channel. Link below:

Stewart has also recently wrapped filming on the feature film Her Last Laugh, directed by Joy Hopwood, in which she plays the lead role of Taylor opposite Ana Thu Nguyen (Mortal Kombat 2) and Peter Thurnwald (XO Kitty). The highly anticipated film is set for a cinema release in September 2026.

Both Tropfest films premiere on February 22, representing a major international showcase for Stewart’s work. Actor Margot Robbie serves as Jury President for the festival’s return.
